Newsletter for the Special Education Citizens’ Newsletters: The following can be viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader. What is the Special Education Citizens’ Advisory Committee (SECAC)? The AISD Special Education Citizens' Advisory Committee (SECAC) is a long standing committee of over 15 years composed of local professionals and parents of students who receive special education services. The purpose of SECAC is to educate and advise the AISD Administration and School Board through our knowledge and understanding of students with special needs. Our mission is to influence sound decision making by AISD staff. We do this by having participation and attendance of the Director of Special Education at the meetings and requesting AISD staff to present on various topics concerning the priority issues. We visit a variety of schools in order to learn more about the services being provided district wide. Also, we sponsor an annual "Parent's Night" where parents have an opportunity to meet school personnel and ask questions. Citizens from the community can request to become a member. Members are appointed by the superintendent and serve three-year terms. The committee strives to represent the district's demographic, ethnic and disability population.
