First day candidates may file

March 10, 2008:
5:00 p.m. deadline for candidates to file

March 11, 2008:
First day to apply for mail ballot

March 12, 2008:
12:00 noon drawing for place on ballot

March 17, 2008:
5:00 p.m. deadline for write-in candidates to file

March 18, 2008:
5:00 p.m. deadline to withdraw from election and not have name on the ballot

March 18, 2008:
6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Board Candidate Orientation

April 10, 2008:
First Campaign Finance Report* due for opposed candidates (covers the day the Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer by a Candidate form is filed through the 40th day before the election)

April 28 - May 6:
Early voting period

Second Campaign Finance Report* due for opposed candidates (covers 39th through 10th day before the election)

Board Service

Members are elected to a four-year term of office. On a rotating basis, Board seats are filled during biannual elections held on the second Saturday in May. Vacancies are filled by appointment until the next election. The President and Vice President are elected by the other members of the Board of Trustees. Trustees provide public service to the Austin community without financial compensation. Candidates to the Board of Trustees must conform to the eligibility requirements of the Texas Election Code.
