Senate Bill 9, also known as the "Fingerprinting Bill" was signed into law by Governor Perry in the Fall of 2007. This bill requires
that all substitute teachers and classified substitutes hired after January 1, 2008 undergo a national criminal history record
information review by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Therefore, before you can be employed as a teacher substitute or classified
substitute in Austin ISD, you will be required to provide your fingerprints to be checked against the national criminal history
database.
You will be required to pay the up front fees associated with the fingerprinting process. The cost is from $51.00 - $53.00 depending
on method of payment. Austin ISD will reimburse any substitute teacher or classified substitute who complies with the fingerprinting
requirements, and
- Works 10 or more days as a substitute; and
- Has a clear criminal history record from any law enforcement database review. (Each criminal history record will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.)
Austin ISD will be notified after your fingerprint review has been completed. Once your eligibility for reimbursement is verified,
your reimbursement will be processed. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for processing from the time you meet the reimbursement eligibility
requirements.
Any substitute who does not meet the reimbursement criteria will not be reimbursed.
After you submit an application for substitute employment, the Substitute Office will process the application and will provide
additional information to the applicant regarding the fingerprint process and the required substitute employment orientation.
IMPORTANT:
* Do not start the fingerprinting process prior to notification from the Substitute Office.
* Individuals who have already submitted fingerprints for the TEA criminal history review will not need to complete the process again for Austin ISD.
