2005-2006 Annual Report
Celebrating 125 Years

Welcome, Reader!

In this year that we celebrate our 125th Anniversary, we are proud to present the 2006 Annual Report of the Austin Independent School District.

For 125 years Austin's educators have endeavored-with Pride, Promise, and Purpose-to deliver top-notch educational services to our city's children. That dedicated spirit remains strong today, and this report-a straight forward account of our successes and shortcomings-pledges as strong a commitment to the students of the 21st Century as our schools made to those of the 19th and 20th!

This report is organized according to the Board of Trustees' Results Policies, which are used to gauge how well the District is doing to help students meet- or exceed-specific academic goals that the community deems to be valuable. The report also is published in Spanish so the information is available to the growing number of Spanish-speaking individuals who live in Austin.

Also in this report you will find wonderful photographs that depict Austin students and teachers from years past. Our history is rich in teaching and learning, diversity, and innovation. Changing times have brought, and will continue to bring, new demands and priorities to our schools. You have our commitment that every Austin school will face the challenges of the future with the same Pride, Promise, and Purpose that have made our schools great since 1881!

We hope that after reading this Annual Report, you'll give us your feedback. You'll find a survey card inside, which you can complete and return via U.S. Mail, or you can complete it electronically on our website, www.austinisd.org.

Thank you.
