Biography
Dr. Pat Forgione was named Superintendent of the Austin School District by the Board of Trustees in August 1999. Targeting serious District shortcomings, he immediately undertook new initiatives based upon three priorities: Better Student Achievement, Better Data, and Better Collaboration. Over the past seven years, Dr. Forgione has built an outstanding education team, developed and implemented an effective education plan, and produced marked improvement in District operations and accomplishments, a key step to restoring community confidence and support. Dr. Forgione's skills as an educator and educational administrator were developed throughout a successful career in various fields of education. From 1996 until 1999, he was U.S. Commissioner of Education Statistics with the National Center for Education Statistics, a federal agency; and from 1991 to 1996, served as State Superintendent for Public Instruction for the state of Delaware. In 1991, he headed the U. S Department of Education's National Education Goals Panel. Additionally, Dr. Forgione has a solid background in educational research and evaluation through positions with the Connecticut State Department of Education, the National Center for Research in Vocational Education at The Ohio State University, the Syracuse Research Corporation, Maryland State Department of Education, and Stanford University. Dr. Forgione has also served as a consultant to, or member of, numerous educational organizations and initiatives including the Council of Chief State School Officers; National Center for Education and the Economy; National Council for Measurement in Education; the College Board; RAND Corporation; U.S. Department of Defense; Council for Basic Education; American Educational Research; the National Governors Association; the National Science Foundation; and the Board of Directors of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Dr. Forgione earned a Doctorate in Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University in 1977; a Master's Degree in Urban History from Stanford in 1973; a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Loyola College in 1969; a Bachelor's Degree in Theology from St. Mary's Seminary and University in 1968; and a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from St. Mary's Seminary and University in 1966. His wife, Dr. Kaye Forgione, is an independent education consultant. He has three sons, Geoffrey (31), David (29), and Jeremy (28), from a previous marriage. |
