  Austin Student’s Film Shown at Lights Camera Help 2010 Nonprofit Film Festival

July 26, 2010 - Amanda Rife, a student at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, will have a film she produced about her school shown during the upcoming Lights Camera Help Film Festival in Austin. Rife, 14 years old, is the youngest producer to have work featured in the film festival.

Austin School Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen shares her vision for the development of a Challenger Learning Center at the Austin School District with educators and city, state and Austin Community College, Huston Tillotson, St. Edward's University and University of Texas representatives. The Center which simulates a realistic Mission Control room and orbiting Space Station, instantly launches students into the world of science. The kick-off luncheon was hosted by Austin entrepreneur and Astronaut Richard Garriot (center), who said, "Challenger Learning Centers are world class learning centers where students are transformed into scientists, engineers and mathematicians through simulated space missions solving real life challenges."
